Career Guide: Alison Finlay
Alison joined Position Ignition in 2010 and was drawn to what she calls an “innovative approach to career coaching” and to “their vision, commitment, beliefs and values towards helping people to use their skills and talents for themselves and others”. She is Position Ignition’s leading Guide in Scotland.
After studying languages at Edinburgh University, Alison spent 11 years in product and brand marketing, starting as a graduate trainee for Grand Metropolitan, moving into senior managerial roles working for Coats Viyella, Scottish Pride and Carlson Worldchoice (subsequently sold to Thomas Cook).
Alison’s successful career has led her into key Marketing Manager roles and has resulted in great marketing achievements such as launching, successfully a new product line of cheeses, for which she won an award for, at Scottish Pride.
She loves getting to the bottom of people’s stories and really understanding what their journeys have been like to get them to where they are now. Seeing and getting involved in the inner resourcefulness and use of people’s innate wisdom and using this to take them to the next step to move forwards is what gives Alison great pleasure and satisfaction from the work that she does.
Alison also has a deep interest in Kinesiology, which is a holistic way of creating balance and harmony within the body. She has 12 years experience in practicing Kinesiology after having been trained extensively in areas such as Anatomy & Physiology, Nutrition and Counseling. She believes in applying this technique as a way to deal with stress effectively.
She is a qualified coach having completed her Postgraduate Certificate in Executive Coaching from the University of Strathclyde Business School. She is also a business mentor on the Scottish Chamber of Commerce’s Business Mentoring Scheme.
