Career Guide: Alison Williamson
Alison joined Position Ignition after a varied and successful career in HR and coaching. She joined on recognising that her personal values and beliefs were a great match with those of the company. For a client to experience real value from investing in their development, Alison believes that it needs to start with a strong relationship built on trust, respect, integrity and honesty. It also begins with the client in mind which is what Alison focuses on in all of her work as a coach, guide and mentor.
Alison’s 25 year career started with Marks and Spencer in a variety of Store Management, HR and Head of Training roles. In 2002, she was the single stakeholder for all Marks and Spencer UK retail stores in the development of the first company wide staff engagement survey. Since then, she has continued to develop her interest in employee engagement and the conditions that create it.
Later on, Alison decided to leave corporate life. She decided to work independently and to become qualified as a Practitioner Coach (CIPD) in 2004 and later in 2008 as Senior Practitioner Coach (OCM). Through these qualifications she gained experience in the use of a range of tools and techniques to support her work with clients.
Over the last 8 years, Alison has worked across a variety of sectors, helping clients to raise their performance and grow. Continuing to hold a passion for engagement in organisations, Alison has plenty of experience working with leaders and teams to find ways of creating workplaces that encourage people to choose to be at their best. Working with individuals, Alison helps people to link their own values to meaningful work, enabling them to take charge of their career, take responsibility for the choices they make and unlock their potential.
Alison knows that often we join a client in the middle of their career and life journey, and so she takes the time to fully appreciate their world in order to provide the best support. Alison is not afraid to challenge and give feedback where it will help a client to think differently and realise new possibilities.
