Careers Advice: Richard St John's 8 Secrets of Success

What leads to success? According to analyst Richard St John in this video, there are 8 elements to the journey. These include having passion for what you do; working hard at what you; getting good at what you do; and focusing on what you do-or what you want to do.

This is very much in line with the Position Ignition approach to careers. We believe that your career should be built upon what you’re passionate about. As Richard says, you should be doing it for love not money; if you do it for love, the money will follow anyway.

Another key component of our careers guidance philosophy is that all of us must be prepared to invest in ourselves and in our careers to get the most out of our work. Hard work takes a lot of time and effort, but hard work pays off.  Get even better at the work you’re good at by developing and nurturing your talent. This can be done via a number of skills learning opportunities, both informal and formal. For instance, you can receive one-to-one career building support through a Position Ignition Career Guide.

Focusing on one thing is one of the most important tenets of Position Ignition’s message. In order to be successful and content in our work, and to get the job we really want, we must have clarity on what we want to do in our careers. It’s only then that we can direct all our efforts towards finding-and enjoying-that one thing.
