    The number of freelancers in the UK and US is growing yet it is not always obvious how to build your pipeline of work. That's why we've put together this list of freelance job websites to help you explore the platforms available for you to build your career, portfolio and work:

    PeoplePerHour - says it's the UK's number one freelancing community. It has both 'hourly' and 'fixed' price projects which you can bid for by sending in a 'proposal'. It covers a wide range of projects and specialisms so take a look and see if there's a good opportunity there for you.

    Freelancer - says it 'helps millions of small businesses turn ideas into reality', and offers a wide range of projects that you bid for, many of which are website related.  If you have expertise in web development, web design, online marketing or social media, there should be many options for you to explore here. 

    Upwork - offers work in US dollars and is worldwide. It's a very large platform which means that there is a real range of freelance projects up for grabs, but also that you will be competing at an International level for these. 

    Fiverr - there goal is to create the world's 'most amazing digital marketplace'. There are many creative jobs here from video and animation, to graphics design, marketing, advertising, music, audio and technical jobs.

    Guru - is focused on large contracts, many of which are IT related but there are others too. Many of the 'gurus' have minimum project values and so this outsourcing website is great for those looking for larger projects. 

    YunoJuno - is a community of professional creative and tech freelancers. It was founded in 2012 and the team is based in the UK. Build your profile, set your day rate and connect directly with employers. 

    Elevate - is a specialist site for IT contractors which offers direct access to people hiring. Upload your CV and get matched to jobs. 

    Copify - is focused on writing jobs and so if you want to explore opportunities that will harness your journalism, copywriting and editing skills, look no further. 

    Workhopper - offers temporary, part-time and contract jobs, mostly on-site and in the US and Canada. It's great for freelance jobs if you're in that area and want to work locally. 

    Taskrabbit - is a marketplace that connects 'technology with people'. It's basically a 'people-for-service' website. So, if you enjoy completing tasks that others may not, then this is the place for you. It includes anything from running errands, cleaning, assembling furniture and even standing in line on their behalf!
