Late Career Planning Brings Big Benefits

With so many considerations to think about an employee can get disheartened, worried and de-motivated at work.  They can get distracted and they may also be getting bored of their role.  For others, they may be performing well however are ready to take the next step and embark on their journey ahead and beyond their organisational role.

Being aware and sensitive to each individual’s needs is really important in securing a sustainable future for the organisation and a high performance from employees as they continue working with you.  By helping your employees get clear about their career plans they will feel supported and valued by you. They are therefore more likely to want to find a positive solution for both themselves and the organisation.

In Position Ignition’s experience late career planning helps someone to understand how to get clear about their options, balancing it all in terms of their health and their own plans. The individual can then be supported as they negotiate what they really want both at home and with their boss within this new context.

The opportunity for personal planning of an individual’s transition into retirement should be based within a holistic programme that will strengthen their commitment to your organisation and also help to build out the brand value of the employer.

Most people are not clear about what they want to do, which direction to travel in, what their overall aims are…and in fact anything else that follows on from those main objectives. The chance to have time and space to think, with their life partner or close friends and family, is incredibly precious. Of course people need to deal with their financial situation but to make that the most dominant issue is really missing the opportunity to think through the full journey ahead. Given this unique and luxurious situation where individuals now have choice, it’s crucial that you allow your employees to use this time well.

The earlier you enable your workers to start planning ahead, the more likely you will encounter smooth and smart transitions whereby you will be getting the best from your key employees and ensuring that you don’t waste any unnecessary time or energy in disputes or loss of knowledge.
