Career Guide: Marva Young
Marva joined Position Ignition in 2011 after being drawn to the comprehensive and personal approach to careers that is used here. She has a strong background in HR and recruitment and believes in our values-driven framework and individual-focused support.
Marva has over 20 years of experience in HR, and has worked for a diverse range of organisations including those in the private sector, public sector, with large organisations and also small SMEs.
Her successful career started in recruitment and eventually developed into HR generalist and employee relation roles. She has held both permanent and interim HR positions ranging from coordinating graduate training in property consultancy, supporting the set up of new HR functions, to an interim personnel management role for one of the UK’s top 20 Russell Group Universities.
Marva’s interest and natural enthusiasm to help people with their careers stems from having to manage her own career process and progression, and through her recognising that without help, making career choices on your own can take you a lot longer to do. She therefore has great empathy with those who need support and guidance in their careers. She has also experienced career change herself and has worked both in the UK and in France, having moved and lived there for just over 3 years.
Marva studied at London South Bank University where she obtained a PgDip/QCG qualification in careers and guidance. This has helped to further fine-tune her skills in career management and career guidance work. She is also a Member of the Institute of Career Guidance and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
