Career Guide: Nick Marlow

Nick has worked as a Development Coach, specialising in Career Management and Transition, for over 11 years.  He joined Position Ignition to enable individuals to develop self-mastery and personal motivation.  His main focus is building self-understanding and a ‘real’ confidence.  He provides a solution focused and objective approach to confirm and validate an individual’s strengths, natural ability and interests and encourages a clarity, which enables them to take personal responsibility and define their own career direction and goals.

Over the years, he has worked with thousands of individuals, at all levels, across the private and public sector. His practical insights not only benefit the individual but also result in improved performance and engagement for their organisation. 

Before joining Position Ignition, Nick spent 20 years in diverse and challenging roles for three international, blue-chip organisations.  He began his career as a management trainee in retail-banking before moving into a sales and marketing role with the International division of Caradon Mira.  Here, he travelled extensively across Europe building stronger partnerships with their two subsidiary companies and country sales agents.  He also led the creation and implementation of core marketing strategies in the UK and overseas. 

In 1993, he joined Kraft Foods International in a buying capacity and qualified as a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply two years later. Responsible for purchasing all the packaging for the Terry’s confectionery business, with an annual spend of over £30m per annum, his main focus was on supplier development, pan European agreements and cost saving programmes.

Nick’s passion for personal development, specifically 1:1 coaching, grew during his seven years at Kraft.  He regularly facilitated on their extensive management development programmes and also coached peers and other employees.  During this period, he studied counselling and qualified as a therapist in 2001.  He has also worked for two charities as a volunteer counsellor in recent years.

Nick empowers people.  His pragmatic approach promotes sustainable change and development within the individual’s business and personal life.  He helps people to find clarity in their thinking and identify key drivers and needs. 

Qualified in Level A and B psychometrics, Nick uses in depth tools including MBTI Step I and II, Emotional Intelligence, Strengths Finder and Positive Psychology, all invaluable in Career Management and Transition scenarios
