Career Guide: Peter Sandham 

Peter has had a 40 year career in HR and executive search and has joined Position Ignition to provide advice and support to mid and late-career professionals as they make the transition through the middle and later stages of their careers towards retirement.

His focus is on guiding individuals through the Position Ignition process, which was developed some years ago to enable a full consideration of an individual's talents and experience and to help ensure that the right choices are made as the individual's career progresses.
 
Peter's career began with a 20-year period in HR management. He was sponsored by BP through a degree in Business Studies and worked for the company in a variety of operational and specialist HR roles, including a period based in the Middle East. Subsequent positions were with ICL and Unisys before his appointment as Group HR Manager at Prudential Corporation, where he had functional responsibility for HR management in almost all business divisions as well as the central specialist functions.

Peter spent the next 20-years of his career in executive search where he held the Chief Executive roles for two large UK firms including Hoggett Bowers, one of the UK’s leading executive search firms.

Peter has built up a vast amount of leadership experience, which comes from his time heading the HR function of a major international financial services group and also from his Chief Executive appointments in executive search. Hoggett Bowers was an autonomous division of a large FTSE quoted group and Peter gained significant experience of the financial disciplines incumbent upon such a business.

Peter's focus throughout his career has been in helping individuals exploit their talent and potential to the full. He has a way of building long lasting relationships and has forged many during his time in executive search. The quality and authenticity of his advice and guidance is valued by many. His pragmatic approach has led to multiple career successes from those that he has helped and worked with and he has become a key member of the Position Ignition team.

As well as working with Position Ignition, Peter is an Interim Manager, where he continues to build on his vast HR experience and expertise. One of his recent appointments has been with BG Group.

Peter was also a founding member of what is now a national charity - BLISS (Baby Life Support Systems).
